This essay examines Carla Lonzi’s Taci, anzi parla. Diario di una femminista as a critical resource for rethinking contemporary art historiography. Moving beyond a reading of the diary as a document of Italian feminism, it argues that the practice of self-consciousness (autocoscienza) opens new ways of understanding the relationship between subjectivity, history, and knowledge. Through Lonzi’s critique of art criticism, historicism, and established forms of cultural authority, the essay explores how dialogue, relationality, and non-linear temporalities challenge conventional historiographical models. Particular attention is devoted to the notions of recognition and narrative discontinuity. The article suggests that Lonzi’s diaries offer not only a feminist critique of art history but also a broader epistemological framework for imagining an art history grounded in plurality, experience, and ongoing self-reflection.
