Gentile, Croce e il «Leonardo» 

This article reconstructs some aspects of Giovanni Gentile’s and Benedetto Croce’s intellectual lives. In the first decade of Nineteenth century, they engaged in many discussions regarding the Italian culture and together they founded the magazine «La Critica», which was fated to revolutionize the intellectual and cultural landscape of the time. In this period, however, many others intellectual magazines raised and challenged «La Critica» for the cultural hegemony. Among them, the most combative was Florence’s magazine «Leonardo», founded by Giovanni Papini. Gentile and Croce wrote against them not only for cultural intention, but also for editorial purposes, and the aim of this paper is to show this peculiar aspect of their intellectual life.
