Ultrafilosofia come ultracristianesimo. A proposito di Dulce naufragium. Desiderio infinito e ateofania in Leopardi di Gaetano Lettieri

Lettieri’s Dulce Naufragium. Desiderio infinito e ateofania in Leopardi (2024) offers a new insight into Leopardi’s Christian sources and their overwhelming influence on his highly philosophical poetry. Leopardi’s place in the history of Western ontotheology is portrayed as the ultimate atheophanic stance, in which any connection to a philosophically elaborated theology has been lost and the only remaining relic (albeit a resilient one) is a Christus patiens, represented in the famous late lyric La ginestra by the eponymous flower (the broom). Leopardi’s moral perspective can therefore be regarded as a purified form of Christian testimony. Lettieri’s brilliant hermeneutic effort, although highly original and astonishingly detailed, may not entirely overshadow Leopardi’s attempts to shape a wholly post-Christian morality grounded in naturalism and empiricism; nor does it fully account for all of his intellectual and artistic achievements.
