«Fare» Scienza nuova per Giambattista Vico. Intervista a Fabrizio Lomonaco

On the occasion of the publication of his most recent book 1725. Per fare Scienza nuova (2025), Fabrizio Lomonaco in this dialogue elucidates some crucial issues concerning the years of preparation of the First New Science. They coincide with the drafting of the autobiography in which the memory of the work goes back to the fundamental problem: language and providence, sacred history and profane history, eternal ideal history, the history of languages and the history of things according to the new meaning that philology takes on already in the books of the Universal Law. Philology as a philosophical science for the New Science concerning the nature of nations according to a system of  ‘natural law of nations’ that radically innovates the natural law of the moderns. This orientation is no longer circumscribed within the horizon of the order and historical metaphysics of the De uno, but within that of the metaphysics of the mens, which opens up to the new theme of God as Providence for the history of nations with a new alliance of reposed wisdom and vulgar wisdom, of poetry, religion and the history of human customs, capable of introducing an ars diagnostica of that history.
