Un manoscritto inedito di Giovanni Gentile su Francesco De Sanctis

While Giovanni Gentile’s title for his unpublished manuscript, Addition, is simple, the story of its composition is not. This article presents an autograph text that was prepared for publication but then never printed. This is Gentile’s review of Scritti varii inediti o rari di Francesco De Sanctis, which he wrote in 1899, but which was then published in a censored form in «Rassegna bibliografica della letteratura italiana». Many years later, Gentile found the suppressed passages among his papers and added some explanatory lines, intending to publish the complete review, comprising the previously published version and the Addition. However, this did not happen, and the Addition is published here for the first time.
